Part Three: After The Slabby...

So it all started really moving after Suzuki brought us the GSX-R...Look! This geezer on the Gixxer has nicked me Arai!

And this is what was to come later:

The 1990's started with a dominance from the Big Four Japanese motorbike manufacturers, which has continued since then & never stopped. Although there have been some notable competitors like Ducati, Cagiva, Aprilia BMW, & MV Augusta; the Big Four's dominance is still in tact & looks set to continue for a while due to the quality & sheer amount of bikes produced, together with all-important race results! The top ten most popular superbikes in the 1990's were as follows:

7. Kawasaki ZX-9R

Now this "popularity" list didn't necessarily mean the order of these bikes was correct in terms of performance, but more in terms of marketing & sales. Now after this weird & wonderful era we call the 1990's, the Big Four didn't stop there with their dominance & pressed on into the new millennium & far beyond. One significant "Crotch Rocket" event just before the millennium, was the development of one still very prevalent, but now not so dominant legendary superbike: The Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa. This amazing Suzuki superbike has dominated the scene for more than a decade....

Enter the Hayabusa's main new rival: The Kawasaki-ZZR 1400R above

Followed by the 2011 speed record holder & the Hayabusa's other rival, the BMW S1RR:

This new rivalry to the Hayabusa, however is only very recent, and as I said before, the Hayabusa was not properly rivaled for more than a decade, which is in itself pretty amazing. Busa!!! Now you know why they named it after the fastest moving animal in Japan, the Hayabusa mountain eagle. Since the year 2000 the big four have been been heavily dominant with their yearly releases, some looking very very similar to their competitors, and as the years went on.., the weight came off & the technology went up along with aerodynamics & speed. Yamaha started early with their R1 range which is pretty much head to head with its' other 3 main competitors in terms of speed, performance & popularity...

And of course Honda have been keeping up there at the top in races with latest CBR100RR Fireblades...

...and Suzuki have been right up there holding their own with an interesting range of GSX-R bikes which have started in recent years to produce 600cc bikes as well as the usual 750 & 1000cc GSXRs. Kawasaki have been gathering strength with their new Ninja range, claiming both success on the track and this year's fastest bike, their ZZR ZX-1400R.

And now for something that even Mr.Rossi here would appreciate, next in Part 4, I will be looking at the World famous Isle of Man TT, which will actually be with us in just over a week, starting on the 26th of May going on until the 8th of June. This is the most dangerous race in the world.
